5. BELGIAN FEDERAL PARLIAMENT^[9]

The Belgian Federal Parliament unanimously adopted on 14.07.00 a Resolution in which its asks the Federal Government

 

• to work towards a structural international co-operation with the countries faced with the issue of conflict diamonds and to implement additional control systems
• to undertake steps towards the United Nations
  • to take an initiative to tighten the control over the certification of origin of diamonds through an international monitoring system
  • to make a comparison of the existing legal control systems of the countries, hosting diamond industry and to take an initiative for a harmonisation in order to prevent curbing of import rules
